After their mutations brought on by Dr. O’Neil’s mutagen, Splinter taught himself ninjutsu and passed this information to his adopted sons, hoping one day they would be able to defeat the evil Shredder and his Foot Clan to repay the kindness dealt to them by O’Neil and his daughter, April.
